Setup
- Drag Menekşe into your
/Applications folder.
- On first launch, add an account: email address, IMAP server and password. Provider presets exist for Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and your own server such as Poste.io.
- To connect your own LLM, go to Settings → AI and enter the provider address (e.g. NVIDIA NIM, an OpenAI-compatible endpoint or local Ollama) and the model name.
Passwords are kept only in your Mac's Keychain; they are never sent to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Cannot connect when adding an account.
Check the IMAP host and port (most providers use 993/TLS). If two-factor authentication is on, you need the app password generated by your provider. If your server uses a self-signed certificate, add it to your Mac's keychain.
Keychain keeps asking for the password.
This happens when the app's signature is rebuilt. In the distributed build, choosing "Always Allow" once is permanent. For development builds compiled from source use scripts/dev-build.sh; that script re-signs the binary with a stable identity.
No AI response.
In Settings → AI, verify the provider address, model and API token; use the "Test connection" button. The token is stored in the Keychain. If you use local Ollama, make sure Ollama is running.
Remote images do not appear.
This is an intentional privacy default: tracking pixels and remote resources are blocked. You can allow them for just that message with the "Allow remote content" option at the top of the message.
Where is my data stored?
Everything is on your Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Menekse/. See the privacy policy for details.
